I have been playing Puzzle Quest 3 for a while now and absolutely loving the game. The mix of puzzle solving and RPG elements is truly addictive. Although, I have recently hit a bit of a wall in the more advanced le;vels and could really use some advice from more experienced players.
I have been experimenting with different hero combinations, but I am not sure if I’m using the most effective teams for higher-level challenges. What heroes and classes have you found to be the most powerf;ul or versatile for ;advanced stages? Any specific strategies on how to build a balanced team?
I am finding it difficult to keep up with the resource demands as I progress. What are the best ways to farm and manage resources efficiently? Are there particular quests or activities that offer better rewards or should be prioritized?
The battles are getting tougher, and I feel like I need to refine my tactics. What are some advanced strategies for dealing wi;th strong enemies and bosses? Are there specific gem combinations or spell rotations that work be;t?
I am also a bit overwhelmed by the gear system. How do you decide which gear to upgrade and equip? Are there certain stats or attributes that I should focus on to maximize my heroes’ effectiveness?
Lastly, I am interested in joining an active guild and getting more involved in multiplayer aspects of the game. How can I find a good guild, and what; are the benefits of being part of one? Any tips for contribut;ing effectively to guild a;ctivities?
First of all I recommend you reading the New Player Guide I have recenty updated and posted here for some tips and general basic information about the game.
About gear and builds we are currently updating a Build Guide I hope to share here shortly. The issue with builds is that there is no “Best” build, it all depends how you play, what you like, your present state of progress and your goals… However, I can suggest you a pretty good build for early players that should help a lot and can be used with any class and spells:
If I had to recommend a class it would be mercenary, since it helps new players beating top content quite fast, incluing the top Kingdom Defense tiers. Here you have a proposed build for it:
Regarding joining a Kingdom, there are some recruiting posts here in the forums. Alternatively you can ask in the game chat to receive invitations. Best kingdoms are those with max tier Kingdom Defense and bazaar.
For more in-depth information I believe you already know where to go
The best advice I can give is once you hit your first (pay)wall start a new character.
This will provide you additional opportunities to get gear, earn gems and otherwise have a more pleasant experience.
By the time you have 3 characters at the same wall you should have the resources to breach it, but, you will soon hit the next.
Ultimately you will need to choose to invest time (and lots of it) or money (and lots of that too depending on how far you want to progress) in order to feel that you have reached end game.
You want to join a kingdom, ideally one that kills a XX dragon every day.
My advice in terms of hero class is Shaman for everything but Kingdom Defence, as the debuffs you can pile onto the enemy can easily result in dealing double damage.
Kingdom Defence is is best suited to Mercenary, and it’s best to equip your 4th spell that matches the dragon’s colour, so it has less mana (but only make matches of 3, or you’ll give it a big gem to use against you next turn).
The seasons I would buy are:
1.3 for Resh
1.4 for the shoulder piece
3.0 for the green spell
I don’t understand the logic behind this. You can just match the enemy gems without needing to have a spell of that color. I would understand if we are talking about having a spell that converts gems of the enemy color (such as dark machinations against yellow, dark ice against blue, keelhaul against green…).
You don’t waste a turn matching a colour that would otherwise give you nothing.
There are fewer enemy mana gems left after your turn.
The spell I use are:
Blue:
Thaw the Dead - converts their gems to skulls
Purple:
Darkfire Gaze - converts their gems to skulls
Red:
Gravedigger - you can select the row with the most red gems and destroy it, and then make more skulls
Yellow:
Boarding Party - you can select the row with the most yellow gems and destroy it, and it gives you haste.
Green:
Keelhaul - as my Merc is green, I can’t make large matches of green as the dragon will use the big gems made, so once I’ve made all of the 3-green matches I can, I convert the remaining loose green gems to purple, which denies the dragon any mana and charges up Keelhaul for next turn. You can also move any spare green gems to the bottom row for Keelhaul to destroy.
It depends. There are builds that give you plenty of moves so that you can match all your gems, skulls and the dragon’s gems without issue, so there is no need to force spells just to make the most of those off-color matches. Matching the dragon’s gems allows you to deny the dragon mana, so it gives you enough value for it to be worth even if you don’t have spells of that color.
Can you use a good spell that gets mana from those gems AND works great in your build? Then perfect. But my point is that it is not worth using a subpar spell only because you don’t want to “waste” the mana from those matches, I just wanted to make that clear.
That said, I agree that all spells you listed are great for Kingdom defense, either because they convert enemy gems or because they destroy gems, giving you extra mana and skulls and allowing you to do less matches afterwards (avoiding dangerous cascades).
