What were you expecting to happen, and what actually happened
0.37 update added bonuses to sets for equipping multiple parts of the same set.
Playing Paladin with 3 Epic rarity pieces of the Runic set (Mace, Boots and Ring).
Tooltip states “There is a 55% chance to create 2 skulls when casting a regular spell”
This makes the distinction that it is a “regular” spell rather than any spell, so I take this to mean spells in slots 1-4 which I can change, and that “regular” does NOT include Ultimate spells.
Cast Ultimate spell - 2 skulls are spawning with 55% chance.
Since I don’t consider the Ultimate spell to be a “regular” spell I don’t think this should be happening.
How often does this happen? When did it begin happening?
55% chance to proc in this instance because of the rarity of my gear, but has happened consistently across multiple battles.
Steps to make it happen again
I was playing as Paladin so I know it happens for this class. Don’t know if it also applies to the others.
Equip atleast 2 pieces of Runic gear, the higher rarity the better just because it increases the % chance to proc.
Charge up both regular and Ultimate spells.
Cast regular spells to confirm normal behaviour working as expected.
Cast Ultimate spell and see that also causing skulls to spawn with % chance linked to rarity of the set bonus.
If the Ultimate spell is not meant to trigger the bonus, then that should be fixed.
If the Ultimate spell is meant to trigger the bonus, then maybe adjust the tooltip.
(not part of the bug - this set bonus is super annoying for a Paladin as it messes up the board so much trying to make stuns)
Pretty sure this is intended. All spells trigger on any effect related to “on cast” since the start of the beta, including ultimate spell.
The bigger issue is why runic has that effect to begin with instead of putting it on bone, as many builds have to actively not use more than 1 runic item now due to the skull spawning.
Yeah right now it really sucks on Paladin as I was doing well controlling the board with lots of spawn yellow gems, and now my Runic items are a liability.
Only reason I questioned it was the wording of the ability. I don’t recall other places making the distinction of regular spells from just spells so assumed it was there for a reason. Sadly it’s not likely that even if this was changed it would make the set much more friendly.
EDIT - Looking through the other set bonuses, the Night set also makes the distinction between regular spells and Ultimate.
Night Set
2 Piece - There is a 35/45/55/65/75/85% chance to create 2 Purple Gems when casting a spell
4 Piece - There is a 25/35/45/55/65/75% chance to gain 10 Mana for your Ultimate Spell when casting a regular Spell
6 Piece - There is a 3% chance to fill your Purple Spells when matching 4 or more Purple Gems
(Rarity increment unknown)
So the first one just says when casting a spell implying any work.
The second refers to regular spell and Ultimate spell as being different.
The one that specifically says regular spell counts only regular spell. The one that says casting a spell count all forms of casting a spell. Every instance in the game does what it says correctly when it comes to differentiating the two.
Except this instance says regular spell, and yet the Ultimate spell still causes it to trigger.
If the text was “when casting a spell” I would expect any spell to trigger it.
But since the new set bonus makes the distinction I take the wording to mean not the Ultimate spell. Currently casting the Ultimate spell does trigger the bonus skulls.
If the intention is for only regular spells to trigger the bonus, and not the Ultimate spell, then the Ultimate spell part needs fixing.
If the intention is for any spell to trigger the set bonus, no need for the word “regular” in the set bonus text.
Currently everything counts ultimate spell as a standard spell, been like that since start of beta. They only recently started to add text that states “regular spell” despite no instance of it only counting non ultimate spells.
