Mythic Fallen Shoulderguards & Mythic Trarg Helm chest drops, Myth or Reality?

Hi @Jeto,

I hope you’re well.

The drop chance/rate for the mythic fallen shoulderguards & trarg helm from ruby & diamond chests appears to be ridiculously low.

I’ve opened an absurd amount of chests from both archive dungeons and have only been able to get 1 legendary trarg helm and epic fallen shoulderguards. After contacting other players, I don’t seem to be the only one with this experience.

I understand the concept of making something rare, but there’s grinding and farming (which I’m happy to do, and have been doing), and there’s ridiculous and demoralsing (which is what I feel now, and the effect this is currently having). It’s no longer fun to try.

Can you and the devs investigate this please, and consider increasing the drop chance/rate for these items? Please let me know.

Many thanks, DR-T-BOY.

They are dropping randomly, but they are.
My advice would be to farm the flametree adventure to get as many dungeon loot tickets as you can, and use them on the two said dungeons until you get what you want.
I have gotten 1 mythic shoulders snd 3 legendaries, and I haven’t hard farmed the dungeon. For the helms, I’ve got 2-3 mythics as well.
In my case I was unlucky with corrupted shoulders, and had to upgrade legendary (which I got only one out of >1000 crates). But it didn’t prevent to get it to good 950+ rating

The very low drop rate does make it frustrating. I farmed for months for corrupted shoulders because I was too stubborn to upgrade the legendary and “waste” the resources. Think all of the seasons spells fully Ancient Mythic and dropping spell dust annoying farming.

During that time, I had two Mythic Fallen Shoulders drop on the same day when I farmed for the bonus ancient coins.

Of course my Trarg Mythic helm said to me, “Don’t you want to have once of us in both Fire and Light.” Don’t ask…

(This is just my opinion, based on my observations. I have no actual quantitative data to back this up, so please keep this in mind. Its just my own personal observations).

There seems to be different drop rates in different game modes. Like for example Vanilla base-game dungeons like Dragonguard Depths dropping mythics more often than Season dungeons. And even within these dungeons we have mythics that seem to be common drops like the guard belt and ones that are very difficult to get like the Guard Gloves. And every season is like this, and its usually pretty easy to see, such as weapon drops generally being the easiest to get (and tbh probably how it should be).

With the new crafting system, its pretty easy to make your own mythics, even if it doesn’t feel as good as finding it in the chest, so I recommend initially keeping the epics and legendaries in case you ever have to resort to crafting. If not you can always delete them later for aether after you’ve obtained your desired gear piece.

I suspect that because season dungeons have 3 dungeons while base-game have one that season may have different drop tables for each of the dungeons as they get progressively harder as the season goes on. This would require extensive testing though to see if its true, right now its just a theory.

To the OP’s question, yes they do exist (as @Born-iN-UssR asserts).

Pics as evidence:

That said… as the OP states, these are extremely rare, even at the current max general difficulty of L100.

Even when pulling Ultimate Caches, the drop rate is extremely low, which the game clearly points out.

Anecdotally, this is my observation over years of playing as well. Dropped chests have far different drop distribution rates than Caches do. Some relics from the very early days, such as Ruby/Diamond chests possessing strong biases towards dropping weapons over other drops, still exist today. Then, beyond that, there is the well known point that has Jeto has verified in the past where individual items within a set can have higher or lower drop rates because base drop rates are set based on the category of Gear (Armor/Accessory/Weapon) and are split up over the eligible number of items of each set in each Gear category (you can see this in the gear distribution rates for Cache pulls currently).

The crafting system is a the pressure release value for this situation, though it is rare for a workable permanent base item to be created through Aether. Far more often than not, Aether only creates a Mythic worthy of being used as Quality boosting fodder (as was verified that one time where the sub-roll rates for Quality ranges were accidentally published).

Armchairing here, but to me the tea leaves would suggest that at some point that unlocking crafting for Seasonal items would be the solution here to the OP’s dilemma. That said… the devs will almost assuredly not do this until Seasonal Mythic Gear is no longer meta level gear. This would require releasing Ancient Mythic gear evolves, which I believe the game has been sloooooooowly moving towards over the last year through introducing solutions to removing the game’s existing roadblocks (Grungli crafting Glyphs, Crystals becoming much more common and Eveline conversions, farmabiity of Mythic relic drops with Eveline conversions, and now the Darkhunter revamp). All of this is clearing the way for the “next level” of power creep to arrive. The problem being is that PQ3 moves so slowly in terms of power creep that the “next level” of power creep could be in the next update or could be all the way out at next year’s Anniversary. Only the devs know when they want to pull the trigger on this.

Just to add to that, I literally made the entire set of corrupted guard mythics in one night on my primary account. That’s how good the new crafting system is. And for my alt which I only play easy matches on was able to craft a few mythics to get the silver/gold dragon rewards. Not everytime, but usually, and I generally only play easy matches with him and daily challenges. I either craft the mythics or get them in gear caches. Basically an experiment on how hard the game is for the casual player.

I don’t think power creep is essentially a problem, as most of the original sets are just as good as they’ve always been. The main issue I see with the variant sets is it makes some of the season’s obsolete, which is pity. Like Dreamhold is beautiful to look at and it does have good spells, but once you’ve gotten all your spells maxed, what’s the incentive to play Dreamhold anymore when the gear in Broken Dream is just better. Like I got a 909 exalted mythic dreamhold gloves from Dreamhold farming spells, which was kind of annoying, because I’d been trying to farm a Fae Touched version of the gloves in Broken Dreams since the chapter was first released. I’ve crafted 5 pairs of fae touched mythic dreamhold gloves (all really bad) ranging from 624 Divine to 513 mythic. I could probably just sacrifice everything of course and craft a few more pairs, but I’m waiting for that one exalted or at least a sacred to make the process less painful, lol. Another good example I think is Dragons of Light, visually stunning season, but no reason to farm really after you get all your spells when you could be farming Bones of the First Ones for the superior Lightbringer variant gear and the cherry on the top, the best minion in the game, Scarabee.

How have you crafted a variant set? I’ve not seen any way to do that. What am I missing?

You take a rare or higher piece of gear and sacrifice another gear of higher to quality to upgrade it. Its pretty easy and pretty cheap to be honest. You could even buy gear caches and sack those if you want. Or get random mythics from Hunt, Skirmish, Adventure and sack those.

Oh. I guess I do not call that crafting. That always called evolving.

I refined the rarity from Legendary to Mythic of ultra-rare gear items mostly to save my sanity more than anything.

I feel you!
But luckily there’s so much to farm in this game that I close my farming effort as soon as all the spells are ancient mythic. Switching to another farming target really helps to keep sanity
And when the target is “spells are ancient mythic”, it’s even more satisfying to achieve the goal
