New Seasonal Variant Pitch — Bone Set (Plague-Ridden)

Currently, the baseline Bone Set (from Chapter 14) has a highly valued 2-piece bonus for starting mana, but its 4-piece bonus (“Heal 5% of Max Life when an Undead enemy is defeated”) is incredibly situational.

To fix this—and create a highly rewarding, zero-RNG loop for endgame players—I propose a new variant: the (Plague-Ridden) Bone Variant.

 The Core Mechanic: Zombification

At the start of your turn, the variant spreads a necrotic rot across the battlefield, rolling a percentage chance to inflict a 2-turn “Zombified” status effect on the target. While Zombified, the enemy’s code is rewritten to treat them explicitly as Undead. This opens them up to all anti-Undead spells and gear multipliers.

:chart_increasing: Variant Set Scaling: From 50% to 100%

To make the variant exciting the moment you find your very first piece—while still providing a massive incentive to chase the full 6-piece capstone—the Zombification chance scales as follows:

  • 1 Piece Equipped: 50% Chance per turn (Huge baseline value, instantly viable for hybrid or casual builds).
  • 2 Pieces Equipped: 60% Chance per turn.
  • 3 Pieces Equipped: 70% Chance per turn.
  • 4 Pieces Equipped: 80% Chance per turn (Highly reliable, perfectly activates the base Bone healing loop).
  • 5 Pieces Equipped: 90% Chance per turn.
  • 6 Pieces Equipped: 100% Chance (Absolute certainty. Preemptively infects and Zombifies all enemies at battle start, completely eliminating RNG and rewards you for playing with the entire bone variant set).

:test_tube: Visual Aesthetic: Toxic Necrotic Growth

To set it apart from the standard stark white bone look, the (Plague-Ridden) variant features heavily weathered, moss-stained bones. Corrosive, bubbling toxic green slime and sickly green vapors seep from the marrow and cracks in the armor, visually representing the plague overcoming the battlefield and rotting the enemy into a zombified state.

Why This Works for the Meta

Giving up all 6 gear slots is a massive sacrifice in PQ3. Rewarding players with a guaranteed, immediate turn-one type-swap makes that sacrifice completely worth it.

You can permanently slot spells that target Undead weaknesses without ever worrying about wasting a spell slot on a non-Undead enemy.

Endgame players get their perfect 1-turn speed runs and consistency, while mid-game players get an engaging gameplay loop where they have to smite their enemies before the 2-turn rot wears off.

Is it top tier? No, but it provides the thing players want the most which is consistency, and that makes it good game design IMO.
